Explore Hoian by bicycle

The must-go destination of Hoian is the Old Quarter, located in the center of the city. However, cars and even scooters are banned here, so the bicycle is king. You can enjoy cycling along a quiet maze of tiny alleys and lanes of Old Quarter, running along Thu Bon River snaking through the old town. You can embark on a more challenging route around the town, taking in traditional villages, handicrafts shops, breathtaking rice paddies and rickety floating bridges.

Enjoy the beach

Cua Dai beach is the nearest one to town. However, recently it has a serious erosion problem caused by winter typhoons which results in most of the sand being washed away. Going further north, you can reach An Bang Beach. There is less development here and the sand is so soft you can melt right into it. Many café and restaurants parallel to the sea offer luggage check-in service, sunbeds, and umbrellas.

Hoian is famous for its Phố Cổ (Old Quarter), a maze of long and thin streets lining up with yellow painted little houses under Vietnamese traditional layered tile roof. It is as beautiful by day as it is at night. Colorful lanterns are hung above, giving the streets a mysterious kind of atmosphere. Chua Cau bridges the more busy part of Phố Cổ to its little more spacious counterpart, where locals and tourist gather to play guitar, sing or just have a fun time.

Hoian is not completed without its unique cuisine. The Hoian noodle specialty, Cao Lau, has been here since the 17th century. Hand-cut rice noodle, which has a brown color and strange unusual flavor, are tossed together with sliced pork, crunchy rice crackers, a lot of fresh Vietnamese herbs and a little delicious broth. Other must-try dishes are bun thit nuong, hoanh thanh, banh bong hong trang, etc.
